Retwisting is extremely important in the Extensions Aftercare process as it encourages client's natural hair to lock with the extensions and create a natural, cohesive look. Retwisting also helps train hair to lock faster, stay neater, and lay down.
- First SR in 3-4 weeks, then every 2-3 weeks for the first 3 months, then every 2-4 weeks for the next 3 months, then 2-4 weeks or longer depending on your desired look.
- SR MUST be done with light, gentle pressure for the first 6 months and then moderate thereafter.
- Do NOT retwist, neaten edges, or excessively style locs between visits/maintenance.
- May use edge control to slick down edges; limit once a week.
- Avoid putting any stress on attachment points and limiting stress on extensions.
- Do NOT cut any thread or fuzzy/loose hairs for approximately 6 months; just palm roll it back down.
- To create a more compact look, palmroll at attachment points to smooth out any bulkiness.
- Do NOT get oil/grease on attachment points or extensions may slip.
- Do not use leave-in conditioner more than once a day unless instructed.
- No tight styles and avoid pins going through attachment points.
- Periodically check attachment points to ensure extensions are attached securely. If an extension has slipped, you usually have a month to get it repaired before it completely detacches.
- Extensions are initially stiff and dry, it is important to follow moisturizing instructions.
- Extensions usually start to soften and relax within a week but may take several months.
- Platinum, grey, and some red colors may be stiffer than darker colors.
- Limit a stress on extensions (no excessive pulling).
- Palmroll or twist the ends of extensions weekly to round out tips. Be sure only the ends are twisted NOT the roots.
- Do NOT excessively style locs between visits/maintenance.
- No tight styles and avoid pins going through attachment points.
- May use edge control to slick down edges; limit once a week.
- To keep a neater look and/or focus attention away from messy roots, consider styles like curls, crinkles, braids, rope twists, barrel rolls, and loc petals.
